রং কালো হওয়ার সবচেয়ে সাধারণ কারণ হলো রোদে পোড়া। ত্বককে রোদের অতিবেগুনি রশ্মি থেকে বাঁচানোর জন্য মেলানোসাইট মেলানিন উৎপাদন বাড়িয়ে দেয়, ফলে ত্বক কালো হয়ে যায়। ছোটবেলার ফরসা রং তাই বড় হতে হতে রোদে পুড়ে বাইরে ঘুরে ধীরে ধীরে কালচে হয়ে যায়। অ্যাড্রিনাল গ্রন্থির অকার্যকারিতায় ধীরে ধীরে ত্বক, ত্বকের ভাঁজ, সন্ধির ওপর ও অনাবৃত স্থান কালো হয়ে যায়। একে বলে অ্যাডিসনস ডিজিজ।

গায়ের প্রকৃত রং আসলে ঠিক করে দেয় আপনার ত্বকের মেলানিনের মাত্রা। আপনার শরীরে যদি দিন দিন মেলানিনের মাত্রা বাড়তেই থাকে তবে আসলে অনেক প্রচেষ্টা করেও লাভ নেই।  তবে যদি রোদে পোড়া প্রতিরোধ করতে পারেন সেক্ষেত্রে আপনার ত্বক উজ্জলের বেশ একটা চান্স আছে বলে মনে করেন ত্বক বিশেষজ্ঞরা।
